Catherine :: 13.5 Months

I missed Katie’s 13 month update, but better late than never.

At 13 months, walking is Katie’s preferred method of transportation. Her party tricks involve the following baby signs:

  • baby
  • all done
  • milk
  • more
  • please
  • bunny (rabbit)
  • hat (not sure if this is the real sign, but she puts her hand on her head)

And some other seriously adorable things:

  • doing a rowing motion when you sing Row, Row, Row Your Boat
  • making monkey sounds
  • making elephant sounds
  • making fish sounds
  • …and today we discovered that she will point to her nose when asked where it is! Totally stumbled on that discovery on accident!

Words that we understand her saying:

  • mama
  • dada
  • hi
  • kitty cat
  • Alton
  • dog

A few weeks ago, right around the 13 month mark, we ditched the remaining two bottles of the day. Now she has either milk or water in a cup at bedtime, depending on how much milk she drank at dinner.

Speaking of dinner, we’re a big fan of throwing food down to the dog and throwing our sippy cup. But Katie is also a big fan of more constructive things, like using utensils. I got her some toddler forks with metal tines and they have been much easier for her to use and spear food with. She has successfully gotten hot dog speared and in her mouth all be herself! We’re also working on Katie feeding herself bigger pieces that require her to take bites – like strips of quesadilla or grilled cheese. Bite and pull!

I think Katie is officially down to one nap now, too. On the weekends we have started getting a solid 2+ hr nap. Daycare naps are still typically an hour which isn’t great, but she is sleeping for 13.5hrs at night, so I think it all works out in the end. Bedtime is 7pm and wake up time is 7:30 or 7:45, depending on when I’m finished getting ready. We usually have to wake her up. She generally sleeps through the night but we do seem to have spurts of night wakings. Usually due to teething, my arch nemesis!

Speaking of teeth, Katie went and got another bottom tooth the other week with only one or two night’s fuss. We see her 4th bottom tooth about to come in as well, should be in before she hits 14 months.

I am seriously so excited to see how Katie continues to grow over this summer!

Nursery Updates

Over the past year we have tweaked two out of three walls in Katie’s room. Mainly just by adding artwork. Today I rearranged Katie’s gallery wall using some fun prints from Etsy.

I also got around to hanging a shelf above the bookcase to house some breakables. This way everything inside the bookcase is Katie friendly, which is a good thing since one of Katie’s favorite things to do while in her room is to pull all of the books down.

Finally, I ditched the breathable bumper on the crib. Fingers crossed that Katie sleeps ok without it because I’m sick and tired of it. It never matched everything else and I was always adjusting it when changing the sheets.

I love the changes so far. When Katie was having her bedtime bottle after the gallery wall rearrange, she pointed out the new cat print, so obviously she’s a fan. :)

Child of Mine

There is something about having a child and watching her grow up that’s hard to describe. Katie has been with us for over a year now. She is growing into an independent toddler and is really starting to show her personality.

She is walking more and more; it’s hard to believe that a year ago she was a helpless little newborn.

For the past two weeks, we’ve been reading books before bed while she drinks her bottle. She’s a huge fan of this; I need to keep more books downstairs where we play the most.

She looks like such a kid here, I can’t handle it.

Another rambling post, but it just amazes me sometimes that this child is mine.
